The Gyst

Sun Apr 13, 2008, 1:18 PM
Intrinsic. Artistic. Brightly Wound.

We aspire to this, and hope these qualities to be evident in our work. We love each others' creations, and decided to interpret it through our own respective mediums.

Cait is the traditional artist, though don't let the adjective mislead you.
Krystal is the photographer, doing expressive portraits a self-managed entrepreneur.

You'll see 2 pieces per title- you shouldn't be able to tell who came up with the original concept, and who was the one interpreting it. Thus: the source is unclear. Opaque, even.

I like how you're riffing on each other's work. I think the one that has the most resonance is the stay please. Both of those kinda add to each other to expand a story.

Krystal!
Your photo is BEAUTIFUL (as I'm sure you know by all the favourites!) and so much the essence of what I was thinking while drawing 'he cannot be lifted.' it's haunting and heartbreaking while at the same time being so beautiful, it's hard to see how the two go together. You can't see the sadness in it unless you look closely which is also Perfect.
I am proud of us =)

Love,
Cait

and you're out of lullabies.

Thank you so much! I was originally going to pair it with the drawing of the man crying by the tree, but realized it would take on a deeper and more effective meaning paired with "He cannot be lifted."

I can't wait to make movies using this visual essence, and have you design the covers and advertisements! Our creative energies go SO well together. I, too, and so proud of us.

It's pain, but beautiful. Like your drawing. Obscure are we.

You could do some really amazing stuff with the ink on photography mixed media...I think the hardest thing is gonna be blending the lines to where the ink seems to be a part of the picture. Like anything surreal, it has to start in reality and then distort. But I can see a lot of potential there.
:iconjoi-opaque:
That's a good idea, thanks. For my half of the current (second) project I'm just interpreting the photo, not actually drawing ON it, but I'll try to incorporate something like that next time.

welcome to da :)
